The Legacy Behind NW Steps in History

NW Steps in History began with the heartfelt restoration of Jessie Spinks Rooke?s neglected grave, a tribute to a pioneering advocate for women?s rights.

Rodney Croome and Dr Vicki Russell?s efforts not only honoured her legacy but also revealed a larger purpose, to celebrate the remarkable individuals whose contributions shaped NW Tasmania?s communities. This simple yet profound act of preservation became the foundation for a project dedicated to uncovering and sharing these untold stories.

Through commemorative plaques in Devonport?s CBD, linked to rich online narratives, NW Steps in History connects the past with the present. Each plaque is a celebration of resilience and diversity, inviting the public to explore, learn, and share their own stories.

Together, these contributions create a living tapestry of NW Tasmania?s heritage, ensuring its voices inspire generations to come.
